The 2-Minute Routine Song
Making morning and bedtime routines engaging for toddlers can be an uphill battle, especially when it comes to the bathroom sink.
Brush, Brush, Brush Your Teeth was created to turn that daily challenge into a fun, musical habit.
The Story Behind the Song
When our youngest was born, a family friend shared a brilliant little parenting trick: a single verse about brushing teeth, sung to the melody of Row, Row, Row Your Boat. It was a fantastic starting point.
For years, I stood at the bathroom sink singing that exact same verse on repeat, over and over again, just to make sure we hit the dentist-recommended two minutes of brushing time. It worked flawlessly—the kids absolutely loved the routine and never gave us any trouble when it was time to clean their teeth.
As an autistic educator, I know how vital clear, predictable, and engaging routines are for children. When building the musical world of Little Paw Valley, it felt entirely natural to take that trusted parenting hack and upgrade it. Instead of parents having to loop the same lines endlessly, I expanded that original verse into a complete, bouncy, two-minute pop song. Now, you can just hit play and let the music do the timing for you.
Why This Video Works for Toddlers
- The 2-Minute Timer: The song is perfectly timed. When the music stops, the brushing is done.
- Calm Visuals: Instead of hyper-active animation that distracts kids from the task at hand, the video features a steady, beautifully rendered slideshow of Little Paw Valley characters happily brushing their teeth. It provides a clear visual model for children to mirror without overwhelming them.
- Familiar Melody: Grounding the song in a classic tune makes it instantly recognizable and easy for kids to join in.
Lyrics
(Sung to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
Brush, brush, brush your teeth
Gently left to right
Brush them up and brush them down
So they stay nice and white
When you brush your teeth
You make them nice and strong
And so you know how long to brush
Just listen to this song
Brush the back and brush the front
We’re over half way done
And don’t forget to brush the tops
It’s actually kind of fun
Brush, brush, brush your teeth
At morning and at night
Just one more verse to go
and then we’ll be alright
Brush, brush, brush your teeth
Gently left to right
Brush them up and brush them down
So they stay nice and white
